AIADMK takes back control in TN  [Friday, May 13, 2011]

 AIADMK Supremo, Ms J Jayalalitha

At the end of a very tense counting session, Tamil Nadu poll results emerged in favour of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) headed by J Jayalalitha. AIADMK came out with a clear majority in 199 seats of Tamil Nadu. The spectrum scam and the involvement of close family members of DMK leader M Karunanidhi in the scam turned out to be the major push back for the DMK. The public was also unhappy with the enormous rise in food prices and the frequent current cuts in districts out of the central region.

Accepting the decision of the Tamil Nadu voters, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi submitted the resignation of his ministry. The AIADMK is fully confident of forming the new government on its own without relying on any of the pre poll alliances. Responding to the election results, Congress said that it will stay by DMK. "If Jayalalitha has taken her party to victory, she certainly deserves our best wishes and hope she will do a good job," Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said.
Responding to the AIADMK victory, senior congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad said that anti-incumbency  favoured the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.
