Economic recession resulted in low revenue receipts - M Karunanidhi  [Sunday, March 21, 2010]

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi clarified that the low revenue receipts were solely due to the economic recession. He was giving the explanation to the cause for lower revenue receipts of the state governmnet. He was responding to All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam General Secretary Jayalalitha's statement. The Chief Minister clarified that the major cause for the low revenue receipts and an increase in fiscal deficit was due to the centre's concessions to industry for overcoming the recession. Even as per the revised estimates for 2009-2010, the deficit was 3.23 per cent of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) as against four per cent allowed by the Union government. So, there was no need to be concerned over the deficit issue, clarified the Chief Minister.
