Jayalalitha opposes move to unveil Karunanidhi's portrait in assembly halls [Tuesday, March 9, 2010]
AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalitha objected to the decision of the Tamil Nadu cabinet to unveil portarits of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in the old and new assembly halls. She described it as acts against the 'norms of democracy' and against the 'conventions of the assembly'. She said that the decision was made without consultation with the opposition. She also added that the decision to unveil the portrait of former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran was undertaken as a result of the request of AIADMK and due to the backing of the opposition party, congress. The resolution for the same was put forth by agricultural minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam . With regard to the opposition from Jayalalitha, he said that “Ms. Jayalalithaa has vented her anger in the statement because her party MLAs are deserting her one by one. They have realised the Chief Minister is the only person who will work for the welfare of Tamils,”
