Prakash Karat lashes out against media for reporting half truths [Thursday, February 25, 2010]
CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat placed on record the facts that called for disciplinary action against trade union leader W R Varada Rajan who committed suicide this week. He criticised the media for presenting 'half truths, distorting facts and for indulging in baseless speculation'. In his statement, he said that the party received a complaint of sexual harassement from a woman against Varadarajan in September last year. A commitee of three members of the state committee was formed with a central committee member as the convenor. The report of the commitee was placed before the state commitee in november. Varadarajan was given opportunity to explain his take on the issue. The report was not in favour of Mr Varadarajan and decision was taken to remove him from all elected posts of the party.
