The politicians of Tamil Nadu condoled the death of veteran communist leader Jyoti Basu. The leaders including the Chief Minister, AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalitha, and Governor Surjit Singh Barnala described the late Mr Basu as an eminent leader with a 'Charisma'. The Chief Minister said that he was saddened by the death of Mr Basu, who was also a close friend of the CM. Ms Jayalalitha said that the demise of Mr Basu has created a 'void' in the communist party and lauded him as a reknowned personality and a great humanist. The others that condoled Mr Basu's death included K.V. Thangkabalu, State BJP President Pon Radhakrishnan, PMK founder leader Dr. S. Ramadoss, MDMK Chief Vaiko, DMDK founder-actor Vijayakant, CPIM and CPI State Secretaries N. Varadarajan and D. Pandian .
