The State Election Commission on monday cancelled the bypolls to Pennagarm constituency. The decision was announced by Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta in the official release.The decision was taken due to the requistion of some of the political parties that the pongal celebrations would affect the campaigns. All prominent parties of the state except for DMK had requested the state election commission to postpone the election. The election commission as a result has withdrawn the earlier notification that it released on December 26.
