Following  government's move to strike a consensus regarding its stand in the Marine Fisheries bill, the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi  expressed his happiness over the central government's stand. He also sent a letter of gratitude to Union Agricultural Minister Sharad Pawar. He also assured that the State government would undertake detailed consultations before they could finalise on the legislation.However, he appreciated the centre for taking timely action regarding the bill in response to the woes of the fishermen.
