Mr M Velmurugan, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance and Export Promotion Council said that Chennai will turn out to one amongst the largest automobile manufacturing hubs in the world. He said that th annual production in the plants are expected to go up by more than 1.3 million units annually. He was addressing a conference of Japanese investors and business men organized by the Indo Japanese Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He also added that currently there were around 170 japanese units which manufactured their components in Chennai and that the number is expected to go up by a significant proportion in the future.He also claimed in his speech that Chennai was developing as the ideal investement hub in the country and that his claims were supported by the international surveys carried out by some international institutions like Oxford.
