Mr Hemant Laxman Gokhale to become the new chief justice of Madras High Court [Thursday, February 26, 2009]
The new Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Mr Hemant Laxman Gokhale will swear in on March 9 according to senior court official. Mr. Justice Gokhale succeeds Mr. Justice A.K. Ganguly, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court. At present, Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya is the Acting Chief Justice.The transfer of Mr Gokhale from Allahabad High Court to Madras High Court was cleared by President Pratibha Patil.
