Journalists and camera men attacked in Chennai  [Monday, April 26, 2010]
   
 

The journalist and camera men of NDTV, Jaya and The Hindu was manhandled and verbally attacked at a function organised to unveil the statue of Ambedkar. The meeting was a public function attended also by the Chief Minister. As soon as the chief minister started speaking, a group of men with white shirts and black trousers got up and shouted slogans. The camera men of the dailies and the news channels who were trying to cover the protesters were cordoned and attacked and their cameras were mishandled. “A group of 10-15 men, dressed in black and white, surrounded me and edged me out. Then they grabbed my camera and started beating me up. They kicked me on my shoulders and neck and rained blows on me. I cannot remember anything that happened after that,” said one of the camera men. The camera men have launched complaints against the attack. The chief minister expressed his regret and said that the protesters were instigated by outsiders.
