State may ban private practice of doctors [Friday, February 19, 2010]
State Health Minister M R K Paneerselvam said that the state government is considering to ban the private practice of doctors. The state would implement it only after considering the opinion of public health department officials and government doctors. The minister who reviewed the implementation of the “Kalaingar Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatment” in Kanyakumari and two other districts said that it was frequently reported that the government doctors are skipping regular duty to attend to practice in private hospitals. The state government appointed 28,000 para medical staff and 6,118 doctors after a considerable gap in the state.
