The US Consul General, Andrew Simkin on sunday inaugurated the annual week long dance festival of the Music Academy. In his inaugural speech he said that 'music and dance was the highest manifestation of human civilzation'. “The contemplation of artistic beauty can be a source of both pleasure and enlightenment.Although the city is not known for self-promotion, its reputation has reached new heights, and deservedly so. Chennai’s status as a centre of arts did not happen by accident,”, said Mr Simkin. He also added that he was much impressed by the culture of Chennai and appreciated the music academy for its efforts to promote music and arts.
