The state is getting back to normal after the rain related casulaities that it sustained. The death tolls totalled to 83 and Nilgiri reported the highest death tolls. The total reported deaths from the region was 43. 7 people each died in Tirunelveli and Cuddalore districts. It was also accounted by the local authorities that around 143 cattles perished in the rains. Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said that the solatium announced by the government was Rs1027 crore in 2008 compared to the Rs 931 crores given by AIADMK government. Mr Karunanidhi said that emphasize was given to relief distribution of those farmers covered under the crop insurance scheme.
