The 19th Common Wealth Games that is to be held in India got a major budgetary boost from the Union cabinet taking into account the escalating cost and delays in funding. The budget that was earlier fixed at Rs 767 crore was hiked to Rs 1620 crores. The amount will be given as a loan to the organizing commitee at the current interest rate of the government. This has stepped up the construction and other amenities of the show. There has also been a considerable increase in the number of volunteers that have registered for the event. This has gone up to nearly 30,000. Announcing the decision, cabinet spokesperson Ambika Soni said that it will in no way turn out to be a wastage of resources as the amount was given as a loan.
