Cricket banned in Marina  [Wednesday, November 4, 2009]
   
 

                                  A joint consultation meeting on the welfare of the marina beach decided that cricket should be banned along the Marina beach. It was also announced  that the 228 play grounds spread across 10 zones of the Chennai Corporation would be made available to the youngsters for playing cricket. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary K.S. Sripathi, City Police Commissioner T. Rajendran and the Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni . According to the officials the game was causing inconvenience to the road transport and to the beautification programme of the beach. The play grounds that will be now left open for the game will be May Day Park, Gopalapuram, Turnbulls Road, Nandanam Extension, Mandaveli South Cooum Road, Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar and the Pattinappakam Housing Board.
