Dr Ramakrishnan, an Indian American and senior scientist in the structural studies division of the MRC laboratory of molecular biology in England was awarded a Nobel prize in the field of Chemistry. He was awarded the prize for atom-by-atom mapping of the protein-making factories within cells.The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said that the works of the scientists has been fundamental to the understanding of life and had helped researchers to develop antibiotics. Mr Ramaksihnan in response to the award said that he was indebted to his associates, students and researchers in cambridge.“I have to say that I am deeply indebted to all of the brilliant associates, students and post docs who worked in my lab as science is a highly collaborative enterprise,” said Mr Ramakrishnan.
