Traces of water content found in moon  [Friday, September 25, 2009]

Seems like the sweet blue moon will no longer be a sweet dream. Studies and researches conducted by NASA after its moon mission Chandrayan with the aid of ISRO, Indian space agency have proved that water, the basis of all life, exixst in moon. The ones who expect a photo of a pond with fishes in moon got it wrong. Water is in its evolutionary stages in the moon. There has been traces of hydraoxyl on the surface soil. Hydroxyl is a form of the molecular composition of water. A water molecule is made up of one oxygen atom linked to two hydrogen atoms, while hydroxyl has the oxygen atom attached to just one hydrogen atom. “when we say ‘water on the moon,’ we are not talking about lakes, oceans or even puddles. Water on the moon means molecules of water and hydroxyl that interact with molecules of rock and dust specifically in the top millimetres of the moon’s surface,” said said Carle Pieters of Brown University in the U.S., a principal investigator of the moon vision.
