MGR birth anniversary to be celebrated on sunday [Saturday, January 16, 2010]
Tamil Nadu's MGR fans are planning to celebrate his 93rd birth anniversary in a big way. The birth anniversary of the leader also called as 'Puratchi Thalaivar', will be celebrated all over the state tomorrow. AIADMK leader Ms Jayalalitha had requested all her party cadres to celebrate the anniversary in a suitable way. Ms Jayalalitha will garland the statue of MGR at the party headquarters. MGR has fan followings all over the world both in the film field and in the field of politics. Climbing his way to success from a very miserable childhood, MGR build a niche for himself in the film industry. In politics, he was often described as the saviour of the under privileged. He floated the AIADMK party in 1972 and was suspended from DMK the same year. He became the Chief Minister of the state in 1977 after continuing in the reign of the state uptil his death in 1987 following cardiac arrest.
