Yesudas, the Gandarva of music, turns 70 [Sunday, January 10, 2010]
Carnatic singer and reknowned play back singer K J Yesudas turned 70 on sunday. With no high profile celebrations or parties, the artist chose to spend his birthday at Mookambika temple at Kollur in Karnataka. K J Yesudas has rendered over 40,000 songs in malayalam and other languages including hindi. His career has extended to more than four decades. He was born on January 10, 1940 in Kerala to a middle class family. After being born in a christian family, he worked his way up in his career and his voice was adored by all artists and audience in India. He was also given the title 'Gandarva of Music'. Another noted factor about the singer is that it is with his 'Harivarasanam' that the abode of Sabarimala temple closes every day.
