The two talented and veteran stars of Kollywood, Kamal Hasan and Rajanikanth was choosen as the best actors for Film Awards, 2007 that is announced by the State government. Rajanikanth won the award for his blockbuster film Shivaji and Kamal Hasan won it for his super hit film Dasavatharam. Jyothika won the award for the best actress for her performance in Mozhi. The award for the special film went to 'Periyar'. Special awards were also given to male and female actors for each year. For 2007, the special prize went to Sathyaraj for his role as Periyar and Priyamvatha for her role in ‘Mirugam.’The 2008 awards went to Suriya, for his film Vaaranam Ayiram and to Trisha for the film Abhiyum Nanum.
