Madras High Court asks CBI to file counter petition against release of Rajiv Gandhi assasination convicts [Saturday, April 18, 2009]
The Madras High Court on Monday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation and the State Home Department to file a counter petition seeking production of seven persons lodged in Vellore prison in connection with the case relating to the assasination of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.A petition was submitted by E. Veluchamy of Tiruchirappalli stating that the detenus were liable to be released as their arrest was grossly illegal and untenable.The petitioner sought a direction to produce Nalini, Santhan, Murugan, Robert Payas, Jeyakumar, Ravi and Arivu before the court and release them.
