The unusual rains in the summer that hit the regions of Ramanathapuram and Tutucorin badly hit the salt producing coastal districts. The industries are fearing nearly 20% rise in the price of edible and industrial salt in the coming days. Salt manufactures said that the industry is already crippled by strike recently leading to production loss to the tune of 40,000 tonnes in Tuticorin alone.
