The Transport Department of the state will issue smart cards all over Tamil Nadu. This decision came after the success of the programme of issue of smart cards on a trial basis in select districts. Mr Nehru, the State Transport Minister said that the scheme will be introduced as fast as possible.He was speaking at a function for inaugurating the 17 buses on new routes at Aranthangi on Monday. The Smart Card system is already functional in districts like Sivaganga,and Cuddalore. Apart from storing a large number of vital data, the cards facilitated immediate location of vehicles.
