Serial Blasts in Assam     30/10/2008

In the worst terror attack in the northeast, nine high intensity blasts triggered in a span of 30 minutes killed 60 people and wounded more than 300 in four place in Assam – Guwahati, Kakrajhar, Bangaigaon and Barpeta – on Thursday morning

In  spite of repeated warning by the Army and intelligence agencies the state administration was caught napping. Timer-equipped explosive devices, packed with RDX, were planted in two-wheelers and cars parked in crowded areas. 

All the blasts occurred at busy public places between 11 and 11.30 a.m.  It was a gory sight at the blast sites in the city, severed limbs and the injured crying for help. Thick black smoke billowed for hours as a number of vehicles caught fire.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogai told journalist after an emergency security review that the government would form a high level task force to investigate the blasts
