Tamil Nadu budget shows deficit of Rs 11823.64 crores [Tuesday, February 17, 2009]
The Tamil Nadu Budget presented by state Finance Minister Anbazhagan on Tuesday showed a deficit of Rs 11823.64 crore which is chiefly attributed to the Rs 100 crore tax concessions and interest free crop loans which are to be given to the farmers who will repay there loans on time during this fiscal. Mr Anbazhagan said that the government would pay the interest to co-operatives. The Finance Minister also said that the tax for dry land would be reduced to Rs 2 from the earlier Rs 15 per acre and the wet land would be taxed at Rs 5 instead of Rs 50 . The minister also said that the Chief Minister Mr M Karunanidhi would soon lay the foundation stone of the Rs 14600 crore metro rail project for ChennaI.
