36,000 seats left unfilled at the end of TN Engineering councelling  [Saturday, August 15, 2009]
   
 

                             As the Tamil Nadu Engineering admission process was proceeding, and came to end this week, the news turns out to be that there are a high number of unfilled seats than last year.There was a rise in demand for Mechanical and Civil Engineering streams and demand for IT came down drastically. There were a total of 1.23 lakh applicants a year and about 91 new colleges are starting operations this year.As on friday about 36,000 seats remained vacant and seems to be a huge figure compared to the last year's 7800 seats. Though the economic slow down had affected the recruitments, many universities are optimistic about the coming year.  “Bulk recruiters have promised to come for campus placements from late November or early December this year,” said vice-chancellor of Anna University,P. Mannar Jawahar.
