Southern Railways to reduce services that pass through reserve forests [Tuesday, July 28, 2009]
The Southern Railways has agreed to reduce the services that pass through the reserve forests on the Coimbatore - Palakkad section, thereby increasing the operations on the parallel stretch. The decision was taken by Southern Railway authorities at Chennai on Monday in which officials from the Tamil Nadu and Kerala Forest Departments participated. According to V Carmelus, Additional General Manager of Southern Railway, said 13 elephants were killed in accidents on the section since 1978.
