Summary

Set in the lush green paradise of Kerala in the 1940s, this is the haunting love story of childhood sweethearts Roy and Maya, growing up together in Arat, by the verdant banks of River Pampa. Though destined for each other and deeply in love, they are cruelly separated by unfortunate circumstances. Flung by fate into far-off Pattom and trapped in an unfulfilling marriage, Maya is forced to face many unexpected challenges.

In the meantime, back at Arat, when Narayan tries to force his claim on Rani, the ‘elephant girl’, and her beloved elephant Balan, Roy helps her evade his boorish advances. Things come to a head in Pattom too, after a series of disasters, ending in a intriguing climax.

An engrossing tale, simple yet profound, of a love endless and eternal, yet encapsulated beautifully within the covers of this compelling page-turner.

Proceeds from the sale of the book, it is understood, will be used to institute a scholarship programme for deserving students.
